The Detox Diet and Weight Loss
Have you heard about the body detox diet? It is a very drastic one, with the stated purpose of helping you eliminate toxins from your body. Unfortunately, being so severe, this detox process may lead to malfunctions of the internal organs, because they may not be able to keep pace with the changes you force them to accept. Detoxification, or body cleansing, is a common practice in the alternative medicine and it is based on the consumption of water and fruits as the main elements of the diet.
In the scientific world, professional argue about the benefits of such diets: some of them claim they work and they are absolutely necessary for the health, while others state detox is just another hoax and shouldn’t be taken seriously. Others claim that detoxification may harm the body. None of them can prove anything with medical studies, therefore each of us may think what he likes about juice fasting or raw food diets.
Because during a detox diet the body is deprived of the necessary nutrients, there’s a weight loss process ongoing, so that’s why some overweight persons thought to try it as a good weight loss method. While they might be getting results, I’m skeptical about the long term effects of this type of restrictive diets.
What do you think: is there a detox required every now and then? Is is good for losing weight?
